Well it’s that time of year again and Sunday 22nd February will see the best of the best attending the Oscars at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. We’re all quite familiar with watching the arrival of stars of the big screen on the red carpet, but where do all those limos go to wait after they’ve done their exceptional work?

It’s estimated that over 1,000 Limousines along with their Chauffeurs will be in attendance at this years Oscars, so you can imagine that the logistics of parking all these in a town notorious for parking problems, would be a nightmare. The town does what it can to alleviate the problem, closing the roads on more than a dozen blocks around the Hollywood Boulevard area to non-oscar related traffic.

Hollywood Oscars
But the problem of parking all these limousines securely still exists. Hollywood Bowl to the rescue.

Just north of the Dolby Theatre lies the Hollywood Bowl, a renowned 1920’s amphitheatre known globally for its open air concerts. On this occasion though, the stands will remain quiet as it’s the tickets for parking alone that are valued most. Parking is not for just anyone though. Only the elite of the Chauffeur Industry are welcome and the security around entry is like a red carpet ceremony of its own.

All vehicles are subject to checks by the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department) and K9 units will be sniffing out any signs of explosives. There are also plain clothes police present offering another level of security to the location.

The parking area will be split up into zones for individual Chauffeur companies, making it easier to understand where everyone needs to go and each driver has a unique pass to gain entry.

It’s a long day for Chauffeurs at the Oscars too. Whilst we may only see them at the red carpet, there’s a lot of toing and froing that goes on before and after. Many celebrities may need their hairdressers and stylists collected and returned and then there’s the gowns and jewels! Let’s not forget about those all important ‘after parties’ that often create as many headlines as the award winners themselves.

The Oscars is a time when the professionalism of the best Chauffeur companies shine through. Working together, they create a seamless service for all their clients as the overall experience has to be exceptional. In more recent years, car manufacturers like Tesla and Audi have tried to muscle in on these events, providing stars with their own cars and drivers for free to steel some of the limelight. This can be tempting, even for the super rich as a limo at the oscars can cost £275.00 an hour with a minimum of 8 hours hire required.

These sort of problems are not exclusive to Hollywood though and here at England Limousines, we are also familiar with such situations. Recently, we were busy at this years BAFTA’s and we regularly provide our services to stars and celebrities attending ceremonies in London and around the UK. Concerts held at the O2 and Wembley come with their own logistical challenges for VIP drivers like us.

There are some very worthy winners at this years awards, but let’s give a little thought to all those behind the scenes that make these events the marvel that they are.
